The Studio Shop is Burlingame’s oldest retail business, having opened its doors in 1915. It is the place to get your favorite family photos and art pieces matted and framed, and their work is of the highest quality. The current owners, Janet and Carl Martin, live in Burlingame, and are very active in the community, supporting the Art on the Line exhibition in their museum quality gallery in downtown Burlingame. Most recently, they have gracious supported My Monet: A Burlingame Children’s Art Exhibition at Burlingame’s annual flagship event, Art in the Park, by donating all the custom matting of children’s art.

Carl Martin, Owner, The Studio Shop: We're at The Studio Shop: Art and Framing gallery in Burlingame; and I'm Carl Martin and this is my wife Janet.

Janet Martin, Owner, The Studio Shop: We're the oldest retail business in Burlingame. It's been in my family since 1955, and then another family, Dorothy Crawford started the business in 1915. We have what every picture frame shop is gonna have, is gonna be in the drawer. We've got what you can get any place but we have these beautiful museum-quality, Louis XIV over whether they're Spanish or whatever, beautiful handmade pieces. So when you want that really special, special frame, this is where you come. We have frames like nobody's business.

Carl Martin, Owner, The Studio Shop: We have a lot of original art from local artists in here. We've got people coming in with their own artwork, and their family photographs, and their kid's artwork, but we definitely emphasize service here, personal service, because we as owners are here on the site all the time. We both grew up here in Burlingame, so we're very involved with fundraising for the schools and art programs, raising money with BCE and with My Monet.

Janet Martin, Owner, The Studio Shop: So at Art in the Park this past year, with JoAnn Johnson's help and Linda Hoeck, the two art teachers in town, they helped round up, they collected a bunch of pieces that were their favorite pieces, and then we matted them, and then Raziel had everything exhibited at Art in the Park. It's a wonderful community, it's a wonderful place to live, it's a wonderful place to raise a family.

Carl Martin, Owner, The Studio Shop: And the location of the community on the Peninsula, between San Francisco and Palo Alto, there is just access to so many great things in the Bay Area.

Janet Martin, Owner, The Studio Shop: You can get to the beach, you get Palo Alto, you get San Francisco, you can get to Lake Tahoe; it's not that far away. You can get to Carmel, you can get to Napa Valley. I really can't picture our business any place else.

Talk about a friendly small town- I started working for the Martins without realizing how much I would truly become part of the family! I worked there for ten years, and was very sad to leave. Not that I'm that easy to get rid of- I will never stop visiting, and my heart will always be in Burlingame. I love you guys!!!!! Miss you all dearly.
